Design the climate and the weather yourself – with Breathe Earth Collective and Clara Robledo.
In the course of the open workshop, 20 participates get the opportunity to design the climate and the weather in miniature by creating ‘Micro Mundos’, hence little worlds, in terrariums. Those Micro Mundos should help retrace macro topics on a small-scale base and understand global climate issues better. By learning how the balance between plants and the air-water-cycle in the terrariums works on a small scale, the environmental awareness of the participants should be increased.

The workshop is supported by Austrian ‘Breathe Earth Collective’, that aims at creating ‘Breathing Spaces’ in cities with a high level of air pollution, and Columbian anthropologian, gardener and botany expert Clara Robledo. Together with her studio ‘La Savia’, Robledo has been working on this design project, that is now the base for the workshop, for some years. The goal is to give people an idea of the nutrients provided by nature.

With the help of the project they also want to create a link between the cities of Graz and Medellín, the home town of Robledo. In Latin America, Medellín counts among the cities with the highest air pollution

Interaction Art – how do humans interact with technology? Keynote speeches, workshops, and concerts with Some Designers.

Some Designers is an association for media art, which, in the course of Designmonat Graz, open up their studio for three days to provide visitors an insight into this artistic form. The association aims at developing the public spaces of Styria with interactive art and at providing more life and interaction to the fields of art and installation.

After some short keynote speeches on the topic, they present interactive installations. Some Designers explain how the interaction works with the objects on display. The audience is invited to interact with the different items and installations and discuss future developments with the designers. The agenda also includes workshops for Smart (Interactive) Posters and a closing concert.

On 25th and 26th May, interested visitors have the opportunity to see the atelier ‘Some Place’ of Some Designers from 16:00 to 20:00 at Griesgasse 40, in order to learn more about interactive art and even to become part of it. Finally, on 27th May, the atelier will be open from 16.00 to 21.00 and then there will be a concert featuring electronical music.
